DERMAPLANE PRE & POST CARE

PRE CARE

  • Avoid sun exposure for 1 week prior to treatment and use SPF 30 daily to ensure coverage against UVB and UBA rays.

  • Do not use harsh exfoliants for 1 week prior to treatment.

  • Discontinue use of Retinoids (Renova, Tretinoin, Retin A, Retin A Micro, Over-the-counter Retinol, tri-Luma, Solage, etc.) at least 2 or 3 days prior to treatment.

  • Discontinue use of Hydroquinone 2 or 3 days prior to treatment.

  • If you have a history of cold sores, consider beginning prophylactic treatment with Valtrex or similar no later than the day prior to Aqua Facial. Botox and fillers injected up to 2 weeks prior is not recommended.

  • Notify the center if you develop a cold sore, acne, open lesions in the area being treated, or experience any type of illness prior to your treatment.

    CONTRA-INDICATIONS

  • Dermaplaning is contraindicated for those with active infection of all types, such as herpes simplex virus or flat warts.

  • Active acne

  • Uncontrolled diabetes Eczema, dermatitis Skin Cancer

  • Vascular lesions

  • Oral blood thinner

  • Rosacea

POST CARE

  • Discontinue use of AHA/BHA and retinoids following your treatment for approximately 3 days.

  • Do not use harsh scrubs or abrasive loofahs

  • Avoid direct sun exposure and wear an SPF 30 sunscreen daily.

  • Avoid vigorous activity, hot heat, and perspiration.

  • Do not go swimming or put face under water for 48 hours.

  • Do not take long hot showers or put face under a hot stream of water.

  • Avoid excessive alcohol for 24 hours.

  • Avoid surfaces that could irritate your skin i.e. pillows, beards, collared or turtleneck shirts.

  • Do not pick or prematurely peel the skin, as this will cause hyper pigmentation and/or surface scars. Return to the office as directed by provider or sooner with any complications.

    IPL/PHOTOFACIAL PRE & POST CARE

PRE CARE

  • Avoid sun exposure for 2 weeks prior to treatment and use SPF 30 daily to ensure coverage against UVB and UBA rays. Unprotected sun exposure two weeks prior to treatment can result in complications such as skin burns.

  • Do not use self-tanning products for 2 weeks prior to and/or post treatment.

  • Discontinue use of Retinoids (Renova, Tretinoin, Retin A, Retin A Micro, Over-the-counter Retinol, Tri-Luma, Solage, etc.) at least 5 days prior to treatment.

  • Discontinue use of Hydroquinone 1 week prior to treatment.

  • If you have a history of cold sores, it is recommended to begin prophylactic treatment with Valtrex or similar no later than the day prior to IPL.

  • Notify the office if you develop a cold sore, acne, open lesions in the area being treated, or experience any type of illness prior to your treatment.

  • Avoid, if possible, Ibuprofen and non-steriodal anti-inflammatories for 3 days prior to and/or post treatment.

  • Longevity of Botox and fillers done any time within 6 months prior to face treatment may be affected. Botox and/or fillers within 2-4 weeks prior to IPL is not recommended.

  • Closely shave any hair in the treatment area. If the area to be treated has long hairs, they may be pulled by the device.

  • Please note you can be up to three times more sensitive to the procedure if you are premenstrual or menstruating.

  • The use of certain medications causing sensitivity to sunlight, (photosensitive) should be avoided. Please contact us if you are unsure if your medication is photosensitizing. Photosensitive medications may cause skin burns.

  • If the skin is irritated, non-intact or bruised, we will postpone until your skin is healed.

POST CARE

  • You may experience a sunburned sensation immediately following treatment. Although rare, some light swelling is possible.

  • Darkening of freckles and other areas is normal. If this occurs, do not pick or exfoliate the areas. They will flake off or lighten on their own over the next week if on the face and over the next several weeks if on the body.

  • If you experience a burn, gently cleanse the area and use hydrocortisone cream on the area several times a day for the next week. If the mark opens, also use antibiotic ointment over the hydrocortisone cream. Please notify us immediately of any burns.

  • Use SPF 30 or higher daily on treated area if exposed.

  • You may generally resume normal skin care regimen after three days following treatment (or sooner if advised by your technician). Make-up may be applied the day after your treatment (or sooner if advised by your technician).

SKIN PEN PRE & POST CARE

PRE CARE

  • Avoid Vitamin E, fish oils, and Ginkgo Biloba for one week prior to treatment.

  • Avoid ASA (Abbreviation on a medication that indicates it contains acetylsalicylic acid (Aspirin) 1 weeks before treatment. (Please consult with your physician first if you are on ASA therapy).

  • Avoid anti-histamine and inflammatory drugs 24 hours prior to treatment. These negate the effects of the procedure. The body's histamine and inflammatory responses are needed post procedure.

  • Stop Laser Hair Removal, Electrolysis, Waxing, and Depilatory creams one week prior to treatment.

  • Stop topical retinoids (tretinoin and retinoic acid (Retin-A, Renova, Refissa)) one week prior to treatment.

  • If using Accutane, a 6-month waiting period after discontinuation of medication is required.

  • Please notify our office if you have ever been diagnosed with Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV)

What to expect after your treatment:

  • Immediate pinpoint bleeding may occur, which will resolve within 10 minutes.

  • Minor redness and swelling will occur for 1-2 days.

  • Minor peeling and flakiness will occur after a few days. Don't pick at the loose skin.

  • Call our office if you experience excessive redness, swelling, pain or drainage as they might indicate an infection.

POST CARE

  • The initial 72 hours post-procedure are the most critical.

  • Avoid direct sun and heat. This includes simple day-to-day tasks such as gardening, cooking over a hot stove for a long period of time, sitting next to a bonfire or fireplace, etc.

  • Discontinue use of any Alpha-Hydroxy products. You may resume when skin is no longer flaking and peeling or after 72 hours.

  • Use physical sunscreen after 36 hours post treatment. Sun care products should be applied no less than every 30-90 minutes while outside. DO NOT go outside without sun protection (even on a cloudy day).

  • No scratching or peeling.

  • Limit exercise to low impact the first week.

LASER REJUVENATION PRE & POST CARE

PRE CARE

  • Avoid the sun for two weeks before and after your laser treatment. Sun exposed skin is more susceptible to injury during laser applications.

  • Recently tanned skin cannot be treated. Laser treatment within 1-2 weeks of skin tanned naturally or in a tanning booth may result in hypopigmented (white) spots after treatment. These spots may not clear for several months, and could be permanent.

  • Avoid use of topical medications in the area to be treated for a week prior to the treatment.

  • The use of self tanning products must be discontinued 2 weeks prior to treatment. Any residual self-tanner must be removed prior to treatment.

POST CARE

  • Immediately after treatment, there may be redness and swelling of the treatment areas, which may last up to 2 hours or longer. The redness may last up to 2-3 days. The treated area may feel like a sunburn for a few hours after treatment.

  • Your skin will be sensitive for the first 48 hours or so after treatment, so do not use products that will cause irritation during this time. Examples are: abrasive scrubs, toners, or products that contain alpha or beta hydroxy acids, or retinoids (i.e. Tretinoin, Retin A, Tazorac, Differin, Renova).

  • Avoid sun exposure to reduce the chances of hyperpigmentation (dark spots).

  • Wear a daily sunblock (SPF 30+) at all times throughout the course of treatment.

  • Avoid picking or scratching of the treated skin.

  • There are no restrictions on bathing except treat the skin gently, as if you had a sunburn, for the first 24 hours after treatment.

LASER VEIN REMOVAL PRE & POST CARE

PRE CARE

  • AVOID THE SUN- The area to be treated should not be exposed to sun 4-6 weeks prior to treatment. If you are in the sun during this time you should defer treatment until a later time. Treatment of tanned skin may cause blistering or possible hypopigmentation which may last for 3-6 months.

  • Avoid using tanning creams, spray tans, or any type of temporary pigmented creams prior to treatment.

  • Patients with a history of the following conditions may not be good candidates for laser treatment and should consult their primary care provider when considering treatment:

    • Diabetic patients or patients with poor circulation

    • Patients who have a history with poor healing

    • Patients who take a blood thinner, such as Coumadin or aspirin

    • Patients who are taking high doses of iron may have an increasing rick of hyperpigmentation.

    • Patients typically tolerate this procedure well.

  • Using topical anesthetic may constrict blood vessels and is NOT recommended.

POST CARE

  • The heat from the laser pulses may be slightly uncomfortable during and immediately following treatment. Cold gel packs/ice can be applied to reduce discomfort.

  • You may apply ice and elevate legs to decrease discomfort, especially when large areas are treated. Tylenol is recommended for any pain, as needed.

  • AVOID THE SUN- completely after treatment to reduce hyperpigmentation. Use an SPF 30 or higher

  • Check with your provider about the possibility of using a daily moisturizer.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 48 hours after treatment. Consult your provider.

  • Compression stockings may or may not be recommended by your provider.

  • Wait at least 8 weeks before the next treatment. This discoloration will fade over the next few weeks. Brown discoloration may take several months to fade.

  • Consult SBK immediately if you experience increased pain, redness, swelling or blistering. Your provider may recommend the application of a topical antibiotic ointment if blistering occurs.
